About the Author
Christos Tzimas started the first Greek Scrabble club (Kastoria, 1999), strongly contributed to the making of Greek competitive Scrabble rules and organized the first Greek Scrabble Championship in 2005. He has also published the list of 7-letter words (bingos) in 2006 and translated Stefan Fatsis’ “Wordfreak” into Greek (2007). Yannis Papavlassiou kept all Greek Scrabble tournament statistics and data for a long time, being a member of the Scrabble Club of Thessaloniki. He contributed to the tournament and club play for years.

The overall sequence of subjects builds from metabolism and plant function to reproduction, then from simpler to more advanced organisms, concluding with two ecological chapters. Each chapter has been written in a modular fashion, however, to allow them to be taught in any order. In this new edition, the biodiversity chapters provide the best-supported, most current phylogenetic view of the organisms. Cladistics are introduced along with basic information, including gene sequences, followed by modern studies using cladistics and sequence information to identify natural plant groupings. Through this presentation, students can appreciate different types of evidence that describe the past events and directions of evolution. Ecology is another exciting area of study for the introductory student. Can photosynthesis by plants ease problems associated with the burning of fossil fuels? About the Author
Thomas L. Rost is a professor of plant biology at the University of California, Davis and is currently the Executive Associate Dean there in the Division of Biological Sciences. He received his B.S. in biology from St. John's University, his M.A. in biology from Mankato State University, and his Ph.D. in botany from Iowa State University. He has taught developmental plant anatomy for almost 30 years. His primary research interests include the structure and development of roots in vascular plants and structural aspects of Pierce's disease in grape vines.

Michael Barbour is a plant ecologist in the Environmental Horticulture Department at the University of California, Davis. His research blends ecophysiology, population biology, and vegetation science. His current research projects include a state-wide survey of vernal pool vegetation in California for conservation purposes, a search for vegetation and soil traits that define "old-growth" status for montane mixed conifer forest and a continuum of values for those traits that correlate with successional distance from old-growth status, and a reconstruction of pre-contact old-growth Californian mixed conifer forest. These projects have been supported by the USDA Forest Service, the National Science Foundation, the Packard Foundation, the California Department of Fish and Game, and the California Department of Transportation.

Ralph Stocking received his degrees in plant nutrition and plant physiology from University of California, Berkeley and University of California, Davis. His research background concerns water relations of plants, photosynthesis, and chloroplast structure and development, on which subjects he has published over 80 scientific papers. He has also been a coauthor of nine editions of the UC Davis series of botany/plant biology books.

Terence Murphy is a professor of plant biology at the University of California, Davis. He received his Ph.D. from the University of California, San Diego in cell biology, and has taught courses in introductory biology, plant physiology, and plant molecular biology. His research areas include the effects of stress on plant cells, particularly on DNA, membrane transport, and oxygen metabolism. Terence Murphy has over 30 years of experience teaching introductory biology courses.

Simple read, informative

This book is written in a very clear style so that students of all ages can understand it. I used this book for a college level plant biology class, but I could see people using it as early as middle school for an introduction to botany. It may not be worth the price if you're just buying the book for leisure reading, but remember that you're paying for a textbook.

Its literally biology growing in a book

Everything is in the book, the price is right, but the book was not well taken care of. It looks like someone spilled (red Kool-aid) on the book, and some mold started to grow in the back pages. Funny, a "plant biology" book with mold growing in the pages, how literal is that, I bet the book companies never thought of doing that for a new type of learning experience.

This book was exactly as I expected, slight use but in perfect condition. The price was very affordable as the bookstore at my college wanted $350.00 for it, I got it way cheaper through here.

He has received much recognition for his work, including the Pilkington Prize of the University of Cambridge for Excellence in Teaching and a CBE in the millennium honours list for his services to astronomy and cosmology. His previous well-received books for Cambridge University Press include Theoretical Concepts in Physics (2003), The Cosmic Century: A History of Astrophysics and Cosmology (2005) and High Energy Astrophysics (2011).

well written about the essential parts in undergraduate physics

I received this book for exam copy from cambridge University Press.
It is well arranged accordingto the intelligently designed purpose
as well as historical flow in physics. Each chapter selected in great
discernment and deep thought from scratch. I think this book provide
most essential part of undergraduate physics in detailed concept and
historical development perspective in sharp insight using reasonable
degree of mathematical skill. I was really impressed and highly recommend!

Great book from a historical standpoint

Although it does not teach you methods in Theoretical Physics(such as Morse and Feshbach or Theoretical Physics by George Joos), it does tell you how the great physicists got to bring about the great physical "Theorems". But to be fair, he tells you enough about each great theory there is out there by taking it up as a case study based on some fundamental(amthematical and physical) knowledge. I think it's a brilliant book from both a historical perspective as well as from a informative standpoint. I've had it for years and love the book

Historical introduction to the world of advanced physics. Use for a British honors seminar. I keep a copy on my bed stand. It's the best read for opening to random passages on the development of Maxwell's equations, thermodynamics, special relativity, etc. I gave one to my nephew. The blue one is the US edition, the red is full of authentic colour!

This was a gift for a friend, they were happy to get it. They said it was very informative. I did not read it. It is nice to know that there are people out there making manuals for weapons, so you can handle your firearm safely and take care of it so it will last for generations.

He also studied for a philosophy doctorate at the University of Washington and won the Hong Kong cha-cha championship as a teenager in 1958. The best

Of all the many books I have read on Bruce Lee I think this biography is far and away the best. The previous reviewer reflected my thought exactly, that the author, Bruce Thomas, is "respectful but not caught up in hero worship". I would add that this is the only Bruce Lee book I have read that manages to walk that line. Bruce Thomas clearly has a personality and spirituality that is mature enough to have captured and integrated the essence of Bruce Lee. The biography is well-researched and detailed but this is more than a biography...it is a great book.

I love the book. It is amazing! It has so much information in it. This book has given me what I need to give the best dermal rolling treatment that I can. Dr. Setterfield teaches you so much science behind the skin and how dermal needling is the best treatment out there. Also Advanced Skin Analysis and Cosmetic Chemisty by Florence Barrett-Hill are very good books for anyone in the field of skincare.

Great Information

This book has an incredible amount of information on micro-needling. The author does a great job explaining everything. Amazon usually has excellent prices for books-not so here. Very expensive (hence the 4 star, rather than 5)but full of useful content.
