Not For Sale (Undercover Love) (Volume 1), by Brenda Cothern

Immigration Control Agent Ryan "Brew" Brewster finally got the break he was looking for in his human trafficking case. But to follow the lead, he would need to go undercover into the world of the gay leather community. A world he was very familiar with; a world that would require a partner for the undercover op. Vice Cop Rick Kendry did not look twenty eight when he was out on the streets of Tampa luring in the John's. He barely looked eighteen but that was why he was stuck in vice. That and the fact that he was openly gay made him the best candidate for the job and luckily for him, he loved undercover work. When Agent Brewster recruited him for the deep undercover Homeland Security op, Rick couldn't have been more thrilled but little did Rick know that he would soon be immersed into the intricate world of leather & BDSM. This book contains adult sexual situations including m/m and BDSM practices. Intended for readers of legal age in the country in which they reside.

Needs a proofread
By Kez007
My biggest problem with this story is the POV changes every couple of paragraphs and you have trouble tracking who is saying what. The other problem is it needs a good edit because there are things that don't flow and scenes that 'jump' so you wonder if you missed a page. Could have been a great story but wasn't.

leisurely written story with ultra fast ending
By Lorraine
the point of view chopping and changing did not worry me because i figure its the new modern way for authors. i enjoyed the leisurely detailed in depth writing - and then suddenly, with hardly any preamble, boom, the book is in its end throes. the last dozen pages warranted chapters not mere pages. rick and brew were well written characters but did not deserve such a fast ending to complete their story.

Great start, rushed finish!
By Rebecca Espinosa
I could easily give main character Rick 5 stars! Never really got to know the other MC (Brew). I would have liked learning more about the characters and their feelings for each other outside the sex. In the end, I don't know if there was enough between Rick and Brew to give them a HEA or even a HFN. (Personally, if I were Rick I'd dump Brew in a heartbeat after the stunt he pulls during the undercover op.) I thought the author wanted to impress readers with her knowledge of BDSM (including a dictionary at the end of the book??) but didn't take the time to give us a smooth ending to her book. Also, lots of time spent purchasing BDSM toys but very little time using them. Other than a 2-minute scene with hot wax, there was very little BDSM-type scenes between the two MCs. As a reader who was interested enough to purchase a book titled "Not For Sale," I didn't need to be convinced that there is a serious sex slave business in this country yet the author was almost preachy about this. (And letting us know that she participates in the BDSM lifestyle.) Yet all this wasn't bad enough to push me to write this review - the lack of editing was the final straw for me. Over a couple of pages, the author used the word "restrain" at least 6 times with a couple of "restraints" thrown in to at least let me know she knew the proper word for wrist restraints. There were many other editing problems in this book that led to confusion as to how the characters get from point A to point B and which character was telling the story. Lastly, I don't believe any undercover operation would be set up the way this one was. The fact that Brew went to a lot of trouble getting the right person to be his partner in the operation (a law enforcement person familiar with undercover work and who is gay) and then gives his new partner a fat binder of material, very little of which was ever needed, didn't seem necessary when the op actually got underway. And how could Brew, who is supposed to be a terrific experienced agent, not see the common thread in the profile of the abducted men? I didn't need Rick to find that link and tell me about it, but apparently Brew was surprised and angry that he hadn't discovered the common thread before. After limited "training," all Rick needed to do was look the part of a sexy "bottom" and walk into the room with a collar and wrist restrains/restraints. Oh, and then be very forgiving when Brew throws Rick to the wolves (the slave masters) and keeping that important detail of the op from Rick. No respected agent would keep important details of the operation from his partner.

So, poor character development (of at least one of the MCs), rushed ending (the author tried to be tricky, but it fell flat for me), and very poor editing did not leave me wanting to read another book by this author. One good thing, I borrowed this book for free with my Prime membership!
