Amelia's Touch, by Elizabeth Kelly

Amelia Barlow is cursed. When she was sixteen, a car accident killed her twin brother and left her in a coma. When she awoke, she had the ability to hear other people’s thoughts simply by touching them.

Detective Jack Emerson is half-Lycan and half-human. His hunt for a vampire leads him to Amelia’s hometown. He is immediately drawn to Amelia but he finds her refusal to let him touch her puzzling. However, Amelia’s denial of his touch is the least of his problems – the Lycans want her power.

About the Author
Elizabeth Kelly was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. She moved west as a teenager and now lives in Alberta with her husband and her cat, Murray. Another Good Read From Elizabeth Kelly!
By JJH
4-4 1/2 stars. Elizabeth Kelly has turns into a "must buy" author for me. So when I saw she had a new one out, I jumped on it--I was not disappointed. Very enjoyable read. Nice flow, easy to understand. Was able to finish in an evening. It was great characters, good suspense, and spicy intimate scenes. The H seems to mess up with the h quite a bit in this one--especially in the beginning. My only complaint is I felt part of the ending rushed. Without giving anything away, the h is upset with something the H is (or actually isn't ) doing, them I feel like BAM!-- all is well. Despite that, I really liked it, and would recommend!

Wonderful
By Redread
Amelia is a great character. She has gone 10 years without being able to touch someone without knowing too much. She can and does help the police out. She is strong. She wears gloves to avoid accidental touching.

Her mate doesn't want a human mate. He tells her he will never mate with her.

The other characters were just as interesting. Amelia's
brothers back story is brief, but I still feel like I knew him. Side details about friends and other family members made for a great read.

I laughed and cried through out the book. For me that makes an excellent read. It was the first book I have read from this author. I plan on going out to look for some more.

Could Have Been So Much More
By 30 Book A Month Reader
Amelia Barlow was 16 when she was in a car accident that killed her twin brother, and caused her to wake up know what other people are thinking if she touches them. Worse yet, it works both ways - when Amelia touches them, they also know and see her mind. Because of the trauma involved, Amelia has been wearing gloves and living like a hermit for the last decade. Occasionally she helps the police with difficult cases, and that is how she meets Detective Jack Emerson (half-human and half-Lycan). During a crime investigation, Amelia inadvertently touches Jack and realizes that she can't read him. Talk about joy! Here was a man she was attracted to and he couldn't read her or her him. Jack, on the other hand, is just as attracted to Amelia, but he has many concerns about her being a frail human.

Really this was a book that could have been so much more. The writing from Ms. Kelly is very good, but the plot? Geez. It was threadbare and repetitive. Over and over again we were treated to the same issues - Amelia wanted Jack, but thought Jack didn't want her. Jack wanted Amelia, but was afraid he would hurt her and leave her. Over and over again...and again. The worst part was the stupidity in the decision-making processes of both characters. Things that were so obvious were brushed over and decisions that were made were stupid and shallow. I did finish the book, but mainly because I wanted to see if there was any redemption for it...no. The plot read like a story wrote in study hall by a junior in high school. There was no depth to the characters, no complexity, no real conflict. It was boy meets girl, girl wonders if he likes her, he does but holds back, the both do dumb things that land them into incredibly danger, lots of sex ensues, they overcome their obstacles and live HEA. Yes, it really was like a Harlequin romance (with paranormal elements) that you read back in the late 70's. Too bad. The idea was a good one with some fresh elements. The story could have been so much more.
