I enjoy hearing Gods word in the original language. Book well is done. Beautiful photography of Holy Land. I am pleased withe the price and quality of product. Amazon seems to always come through with good value for my hard earned money..

slow but sure: biblical Hebrew for all

The readings are clear and it's easy to read along with the phonetic text for the verses contained in this book, filled with pictures from Isreal. One can easily feel like having been there with the sights and sounds of this text.

I wish the CD broke up each phrase into 3 levels of practice - Slow, Moderate, Conversation.

Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová are the stars and songwriters of the 2006 film Once, for which they won an Academy Award for Best Song. The two comprise the musical folk-rock duo The Swell Season, which is currently touring the United States. A documentary film of the duo, The Swell Season, was an official selection of the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival. Hansard is also a member of the Irish band The Frames and Irglová is a classically trained Czech pianist and vocalist.

I wish I could review with a 6 star rating

Because I would certainly would. Once, started as a movie a heart wrenching gorgeous movie about how people can bond through music. Its a universal theme as people form affections through bond and love of something mutual. But this work of art took it to another level.

Now the book is pretty much the movie but with certain plot details added, a joke or two to make it smoother but the beauty, the core, the heart and the ultimate expressions of love are there.

Indeed the book and the movie complement each other, and music changes sligthly in the musical so you dont feel it like a movie turned musical automatically upon seeing it.

The ending is pretty much the same, they indeed dont end up together, you know they will do so in the future. Because they love each other, but they still have things to work out with their respective former loved ones. But they are not right for each other. The power is there, the strength of the movie is translated to the play, because when the guy tells the girl about being alone I was moved to tears for I felt his loneliness and when the girl tells him her true feeling in the shadow of her language I cried "Once" more because I felt her regret. The play is strong and stands for itself a an amazing work of beautiful art.

Just...great.

I'm NOT a reader. So for me to actually read this took a lot of internal motivation. I will admit, the book sucks. I mean, me reading the book to myself sucks. But the story is just incredible, and the show is even better. If you've not seen ONCE, you need to see it at least TWICE. It's one of the most intimate theatrical experiences you'll ever have. If a group of actors showed up to my house on any night to read this to me, and I'd be OK with that.

If I could give "Once" a million stars, I would. This is the best piece of theatre that I've ever experienced. Owning the script to such a beautiful masterpiece is so exciting. If you ever get the chance to see "Once" live, take it. It's the most beautiful and magical experience you'll ever have

Grade 7–10—This eminently readable work highlights the history of gays and lesbians in the U.S. Beginning with the Victorian period and following with five more chapters covering the 20th and 21st centuries through 2006, Alsenas prefaces each historically accurate section with a true story told from a personalized (or fictionalized) point of view, such as the notorious 1892 Memphis murder of Freda Ward by her lover, Alice Mitchell. This technique, combined with abundant archival photos and the author's accessible writing style, makes the pages fly by almost as if reading a long, compelling story. Of course, this book only touches on salient points of LGBT history, but for young teens who are interested in learning about queer scholarship, it is an excellent place to begin. *Starred Review* Alsenas’ landmark history of American gay life focuses largely on public attitudes toward homosexuality and the seemingly endless struggle for gay rights. After a brief survey covering pre–twentieth-century America, Alsenas narrows his focus to offer a closer examination of more recent events. Thus, Chapter Two deals with the period 1910–39; Chapter Three, with 1940–59; and so on until the final chapter brings the reader to the present—and beyond. In an effort to humanize his material, the author begins each chapter with an individual story told from a personalized (i.e., lightly fictionalized) point of view. While this succeeds in dramatizing factual material, the effort may be unnecessary, since the epic story the author tells of the gradual emergence of gays and lesbians from the shadows is itself a compellingly human drama. Alsenas’ often sprightly, always engaging style makes his history even more reader-friendly, as do the many archival photographs that enliven each page. About the Author

Linas Alsenas, originally from Cleveland, Ohio, studied art history at Harvard University, where he was introduced to queer studies. After graduation, he worked for a year as an editor at a design magazine before embarking on his career in book publishing, in which he worked on The Art of Maurice Sendak: 1980 to Present, by award-winning playwright Tony Kushner, and Male Desire: The Homoerotic in American Art, by noted art historian Jonathan Weinberg, and many children’s books. Linas is a US citizen who lives with his partner in Stockholm, Sweden.

Exceptional history.

As someone who has been a gay activist for 30+ years, this is a welcome and engaging book. The design of the book, images, and white space is particularly suited to teenagers. The writing is accessible and neutral in tone. This is an excellent choice for libraries and for discussion groups. I recommend giving this book to your local libraries, youth centers, LGBT centers, anywhere that teens might be looking for LGBT information. I clearly remember the first LGBT reading list published by the American Library Association that was all of 1 page. Barbara Gittings was the editor and one of the hero's mentioned in this book. I hope to meet the author should he come to the SF Bay Area for a reading.

This book is absolutly amazing! I dont read alot but i have started reading books involving gay rights to further educate myself on the issues effecting my dearest friends. This book goes over everthing! It answered so many questions i had. i will be sharing this book with many people and encourage everyone to read it gay or straight.

This book, Gay America, written by Alsenas is a wonderful history of our struggle with equality as well as noting the great accomplishments for our LBGT community. The book itself is put together very well with a very nice front cover that would make it look great on an teen, or adult's bookshelf, or coffeetable. Kudos to Alsenas for this book!!!!
