Unlike some opening books, the author has shied away from the extensive (excessive?) use of game segments. He has preferred a balance between the latest ideas, classic themes and practical middlegame play. Naturally the key theoretical aspects are highlighted, but he also looks at important moments whenever they occur. Sound repertoire, but you'll need to do more work.

Sveshnikov's approach to opening books - for example in his works on the 2 c3 Sicilian and Advance French - is idiosyncratic, relying on the analysis of a large number of games rather than concrete opening variations. In this way the reader learns to understand the openings, and consequently those volumes will stand the test of time. He adopts a similar approach here but doesn't achieve quite the same the same effect. This is possibly because there are a large number of anti-Sicilians, each with their own positional themes. Perhaps it is also because the author's great analytical contribution is to the above to openings plus of course the Sicilian Sveshnikov, and he has less to say about the anti-Sicilians.

Nonetheless, the repertoire presented is reliable and "main-line", with the exception of the 2.c3 Sicilian where he recommends a sub-line as an alternative to the main lines presented in his 2 c3 book. He doesn't cover the Rossolimo/Moscow complex, which is one of the two key anti-Sicilians (but then neither did Richard Palliser in "Fighting the anti-Sicilians").

I suspect you will need to do quite a bit of extra work with the help of databases and engines, and I am sure Evgeny would say "that's what you should be doing!"

The book is good, it offers simple and effective lines and it is well analyzed, I did not find any serious tactical mistake. The problem is the Rossolimo variation, which is not covered in this book, it will be analyzed later according to Sveshnikov.

About the Author

Randy Allen received his A.B. summa cum laude in chemistry from Harvard University and his M.A. and Ph.D. in mathematical sciences from Rice University. After serving a research fellowship at Rice, Dr. Allen entered the practical world of industrial compiler construction. His career has spanned research, advanced development, and management at Ardent Computers, Sun Microsystems, Chronologic Simulation, Synopsys, and CynApps. He has authored or coauthored 15 conference and journal papers on computer optimization, restructuring compilers, and hardware simulation, and has served on program committees for Supercomputing and the Conference on Programming Language and Design Implementation. Mr. Allen is CEO and President of Catalytic Compilers.

Professor Kennedy has published over 150 technical articles and supervised 34 Ph.D. dissertations on programming support software for high-performance computer systems. In recognition of his contributions to software for high-performance computation, he received the 1995 W. Wallace McDowell Award, the highest research award of the IEEE Computer Society. In 1999, he was named the third recipient of the ACM SIGPLAN Programming Languages Achievement Award.

The quality of binding and paper is really bad, and I doubt it's a legal copy.

See the picture. On the left hand side is a book my colleague bought years ago,
the paper is superior and lighter, and the binding is solid.
The book I just get is really hard to open to read the text in the inner side due to bad binding,
and I think it will fall apart soon.

This is the only compiler book i know that performs a comprehensive study on dependences and their applications. It does not provide the theory to learn how a compiler front-end works but rather it focuses on dependence based optimization with applications on parallelism and cache optimization. I consider that this book serves its purpose perfectly

Gr 9 Up—Wealthy, beautiful high school senior Oona Antunes gets good grades, has a loving boyfriend, and hangs with the popular crowd, yet she flees the Winter Formal dance and lays down to die in the Colorado cold. Rescued and revived, she loses some fingers and toes to frostbite and struggles to make sense of the pain behind her suicide attempt. Unfortunately, readers will also struggle, since Oona's distant relationship with her parents, and the envy she engenders in her classmates, seem to be the only sources of conflict in an otherwise smooth life. Told in brooding first person by Oona's disembodied soul (a clunky device that never quite coheres), the rest of the book is a jumble of high school drama, Oona's physical and psychological recovery, and intergenerational tragedy. A big reveal about Oona's father near the end of the book comes across as far-fetched rather than providing insight into the family dynamic. The self-consciously literary writing is heavy on metaphor and cliché, sapping Oona's story of emotional immediacy. Furthermore, Latino and Native American characters play stereotypical roles in helping European-American Oona to heal. For example, a Navajo teen gives Oona an eagle feather to acknowledge her strength. Much better books about teen mental illness and suicide exist: try Ned Vizzini's It's Kind of a Funny Story (Hyperion, 2006), Meg Rosoff's How I Live Now (Random, 2004), Jay Asher's 13 Reasons Why (Penguin, 2007), or Leila Sales's This Song Will Save Your Life (Farrar, 2013) instead.—Sarah Stone, San Francisco Public Library

Heather Sappenfield (Vail, CO) received an MFA from Pacific University. She has written for The Writer's Chronicle, Mountain Flyer Magazine, and Mountain House and Home. Her fiction has appeared in Meridian, Shenandoah, Limestone, and Tampa Review. She has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and has been a finalist for the Serena McDonald Kennedy Award, the St. Lawrence Book Award, the Doris Bakwin Prize, and the Flannery O'Connor Award.

Raw and honest journey of self-discovery.

Oona Antunes hated her mom demanding life be perfect, and missed the father who was always away on business. Fascinated with water, as it reflected her own disappearing and despairing life, she kept a journal detailing water facts.

In the middle of a winter dance Oona split herself into two different people. The new “spirit self” became the narrator and, through her eyes, readers saw Oona leave the dance to freeze to death on a mountain trail.

When Oona awoke in the hospital, it was to the realization she had died for almost 20 minutes and had lost several fingers and toes, as well as part of her nose and cheek, to frostbite. While healing she realized the pain her attempted suicide had cost others, and attempted to set things right with them and with herself by Living with a capital “L.”

Part of her healing came about when she accompanied the school’s guidance counselor to a Native American School where she realized everyone’s sense of family and identity was something she wanted. Oona was sure her distant and unemotional father held the key to her family’s happiness, feeling she could help him to Live, but would soon find she had undertaken a task far greater than she had expected.

Through “The view from who I was” Seppenfield takes a look at suicide and its effects on those left behind. Oona’s raw and honest journey of self-discovery will resound with her readers.

A message of hope, at its best

I met Heather in Seaside, OR January 17, 2015. It was a very brief encounter. My husband and I were on our way to a meeting. Heather gave me a bracelet with the title of her book, "The View From Who I Was" which led me to curiously look into her book. I found it to be an honest gripping inspirational novel that kept me turning to the next page, I highly recommend "The View From Who I Was."

He worked on Wall Street for twenty-five years and retired as a Senior Vice President of a $25 billion company in 2009. He is has been married to Alicia Adevai for twenty-eight years and they have six children: Alexandra, Victoria, Jacqueline Joseph, Joshua, Dominique.

Quick Read!

Very easy read. Although I have the honor to call this man Senior Pastor at my church, I have a hard time keeping an interest in a book ..I read this in 2 1/2 days It was a tear jerker but Very inspiring seeing how God never left his side and how God got him through trial after trial. Defiantly a book of HOPE ! If you need help getting a loved one to connect with Jesus who might be a little rough around the edges..I highly recommend this book.

This book is inspiring and so relatable. His struggles from childhood to adulthood are heartbreaking but a true testimony of God's grace. If you have ever felt hopeless....know that God is the answer.

With short stories, lovely yarns, and amusing tales Zig Ziglar effectively brings his points across. He has such a "good ole boy" way of telling stories that get to the heart of things.

My 3 main takeaways are
1) Are you kicking your cat?
If you are having a bad day, you are probably taking it out on someone or something else. Everyone has problems, and sometime we have to look a little deeper to find out why.

2) If you want to improve your life, improve your vision
Try to find something good in everything and everyone.

3) Get Motivated Regularly
Motivation is like taking a shower. It wears off, so to stay motivated, we need to be constantly and regularly be motivativated. Hang around the right people, keep learning, keep doing the right things.

This book is ideal for people at all stages of their careers.

I bought this before starting my 1st job in sales in my early 20s..... Using what I learned, I became both the top grossing and the most profitable sales person in the B2B Sales company.

My sales kept a Company of 48 people going for many years.

This book reminds us that "sales" is the oldest profession. Even teachers and parents need to learn the myriad of approaches to sell kids on the idea of learning!

I have owned my companies for many years, and I have bought this book in order to re-learn many of the lessons and techniques that I originally learned, internalized, and incorporated into an exceptional sales career.

Now although I have been blessed to be on the Board of Directors of a Media Company, I find myself needing to review these timeless gems.

Funny how this book came to me

This book spoke to me when I was a young man of 21 years of age. It unlocked things in me I didn't realize I had within. Funny how this book came to me. I had a convertible that I would leave the top down when I was at work. One day I came out and the book was in my back seat. I didn't purchase the book. It was just.....there. By some strange happening it was there. I was 21 and very distracted in life, but I read this book. It woke me up. I achieved things I never thought I could. By putting practice the ideas within. Now as a man of 50 I felt it was time to revisit these ideas and see what else I have inside. I look forward my upcoming journey.
